Personal Statement:“Imagine what one’s day would be like without math. Imagine what this world would be like without the existence of mathematics.” This is how I started my research paper on mathematics and its every day applications for my senior project, a graduation requirement, in my high school. My passion for mathematics developed for years in high school. From the beginning of the senior year, I started volunteering to work as a math tutor after school three days a week. Over time, the volunteer work seeded my interest in mathematics. When helping other students with their math problems, I really enjoyed what I was doing. The students’ need for help strongly motivated me to find every possible method that would give them a better and clearer understanding of a concept, a formula, or a particular problem in the book. Sometimes I did feel stressed out and frustrated on the job because I was not able to provide the students a decent explanation that they could easily understand. The more challenges I entered while tutoring, the stronger my enthusiasm for mathematics became. I love tutoring math as much as I love doing math.

Personal Statement:Words cannot describe how rewarding it is to be able to guide students through this bizarre language we like to call mathematics. But the fact of the matter is that math is a widely despised subject at all levels of education. Consequently, no other subject in our schools is afflicted with a lower level of competency – a reality that I’ve witnessed. I am passionate about teaching mathematics because for such a critically relevant subject, it has unjustly been burdened with a mysterious and dreadful stigma in our popular imagination. The “mysterious” nature of mathematics has taken the blame for low rates of mathematical competency in our schools for far too long. It is passion to become an exceptional math teacher (that this world has ever seen) and to change the face of mathematics education by making it a subject that students should not grow to hate but something they can do and even enjoy. Since 2003, I’ve worked with a very diverse set of students, from the elementary level to adult community college students, dealing with all levels of Algebra, Arithmetic, Geometry, Trigonometry, and up to the first few years of Calculus. In addition, I’ve taken math classes at UC Berkeley that focused on teaching mathematics at the middle and high school levels efficiently, accurately and clearly. In my experiences I’ve found tutoring math most successful when one can develop a rapport with the student. This has been no problem for me as I treat everyone I tutor as more than just a student. As a result, students have found sessions with me enjoyable and see the material from a much clearer and understandable perspective. Anyone would agree that good education should be available to all who seek it, regardless of their personal history or socioeconomic circumstances. I’ve made it my mission to change the unfortunate tendency of low mathematical competency by bringing my passion for teaching mathematics to those that need it the most. My intelligence, undying dedication, understanding, patience, experience and strong sense of responsibility, in addition to providing a fun, engaging, and more importantly encouraging style to teaching mathematics make me the ideal candidate as a mathematics tutor and aspiring mathematics teacher.

Personal Statement:Learning is fun when it's an engaging process. Ever since I was young, studying with a partner or in a group has always provided me with the motivation I needed to achieve the outcome I desired academically. Tutoring pupils, therefore, has been and still is one of the most gratifying jobs out there for me. I look forward to making learning fun and engaging and can adjust to any pace of learning! I have a great sense of humor and, when possible, I try to take break down subjects from its realm of theory and relate them to, well, things we can all relate to and understand! I look forward to teaching pupils of all ages!

Education: B.S. CHEMISTRY UC BERKELE 2010
Courses:GENERAL CHEMISTRY 1, GENERAL CHEMISTRY 2, ORGANIC CHEMISTRY 1, ORGANIC CHEMISTRY 2, GENERAL BIOLOGY, K-8 BASIC MATH, BEGINNING ALGEBRA, ADVANCED ALGEBRA, TRIGONOMETRY
Personal Statement:I've had tutors before. The good, the bad, the ugly. I've seen it all. And from personal experience, the most important thing to have in a tutor (after knowledge in the subject area, of course) is approachability and a friendly demeanor so that both yours and my tutoring experience can be an enjoyable success. And I feel I qualify as one of those people: friendly, funny (or I try to be--sometimes I don't know if my friends are laughing with or at me), energetic, and a general likeable person. And, on top of that, I know chemistry, math, and biology like the back of my hand. What more can you ask for?

Personal Statement:Hi, my name is Suphain, but you may call me Su. I have teaching skills acquired from teaching technical "jargon" to professors. Other than professional work, I love helping my younger brother who's currently in high school, with his homework that ranges from Advanced Algebra work to English papers and SAT preps. I have learned test-taking strategies for acing SATs, which has helped me improve by +300 when I was in high school. I only hope to help those in need. I want to inspire and teach students who might not be willing or have lost all hope in learning a subject they cannot grasp. As for my educational background, I finished high school with a 4.07 GPA and I am finishing with an above 3.0 average from UC Davis in just three-years! You can do it too!

Education: B.A. SPANISH MINOR IN LINGUISTICS UCB 2007 SPANISH MAJOR WITH AN EMPHASIS ON BILINGUAL ISSUES.
Courses:BASIC MATH, BEGINNING ALGEBRA, INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA, GEOMETRY, ENGLISH, READING, COMPOSITION, GRAMMAR, CREATIVE WRITING, ITALIAN, SPANISH
Personal Statement:Hello! So you need a tutor. No worries, we all need help from time to time. Even better, I love to teach and help people reach that "aha!" moment. That's when the subject finally clicks, and after which the knowledge rarely leaves. I like to build an informal environment where the student can enjoy the experience of learning, and thus feel more inclined to persevere through tough material. I also feel it is very important for the student to trust the tutor and feel comfortable enough to ask questions. Just remember: there are no stupid questions, only stupid people. JUST KIDDING!
